Synthesis and optimization of food grade and industrial grade vanillin and its derivatives from plant sources

Objective of the project:

  • Food grade, and industrial grade flavoring agent.
  • Raw material of different active pharmaceutical.

 

Project Title

Development of technology for better yield of lac on different host plants 

Objective of the project:

  • To inoculate healthy brood lac on host plants.
  • Production of pure lac which will be used to supply dewaxed shellac flakes (Grade-1) to the Gazipur ordnance factory.

Progress achieved:

According to previous report we planted 200 ber trees in fellow land in the campus of BCSIR Labs, Rajshahi. Plants are now fully ready for lac production.

Project Title

Natural dye from the indigenous plant materials and their different application

 

 

Objective of the project

  • Isolation of eco-friendly natural dye from various indigenous source, e.g. Khair (Acacia catechu), Lotkon (Baccaurearamiflora) Mehedi (Lawsoniainermis), Coconut (Cocos nucifera) etc.
  • Application of the dye on textile, leather, food, cosmetics etc.

 

PROGRESS ACHIEVED

A process to isolate natural dye from khair has been developed.

 

PROJECT TITLE

Preparation and Characterization of an essential ingredient Carbomer for cosmetics and pharmaceuticals industry

 

OBJECTIVE OF THE PROJECT

 

  • The production of carbomers in our country to meet up the industrial demand is the main aim of this project.

 

PROGRESS ACHIEVED

The carbomer gel has been prepared in the laboratory. Now research work to prepare hydrogel from natural source and characterization of the gel is going on.

PROJECT TITLE

Isolation and Phytochemical screening of Biologically active compound from different types of oil seeds to find out lead compounds.

 

OBJECTIVE OF THE PROJECT

  • The outcome will create knowledge which will help facilitate to strengthen knowledge based society.
  • Utilization of locally available raw materials.

Some necessary raw materials have been collected.

 

PROJECT TITLE

Extraction, phytochemical and pharmacological screening of Sesame oil

 

OBJECTIVE OF THE PROJECT

  • Extraction of sesame oil. Screening of anti-cancer properties of it.
  • Isolation of active compound to find lead compound. Formulation of dermatological product.
  • Skin care medical product

 

PROCESS VERIFIED

  • A process for the production of nutritious and beta-carotene rich carrot cake.
  • A process for the production of nutritious and beta-carotene rich pumpkin cake.
  • A process for the production of natural vitamin C enriched amla candy.
  • A process for the production of natural vitamin C enriched amlamurabba.

PROJECT TITLE

Cost effective extraction of oil from Oilpalm seed, development of expelling technology and to investigate the effects of palm oil on cardiovascular system

 

OBJECTIVE OF THE PROJECT

  • To develop sustainable technology for expelling oil from palm fruit and popularize the oil to the mass people
  • To utilize the extracted oil in producing different healthful, nutrients and delicious product

 

PROGRESS ACHIEVED

  • Plantation of palm has been completed and observation of growth of palm plants are going on.
  • Trying to extract oil from palm fruit

 

PROJECT TITLE

Identification and isolation of active ingredients from native medicinal plants of Bangladesh by using LCMS and Ion-trap Mass Spectrometry

 

OBJECTIVE OF THE PROJECT

  • To Identify and isolate the active ingredients in different medicinal plants.
  • To develop economically feasible process for the separation of unique or biological-active plant chemicals.

PROJECT TITLE

Sustainable production of food-grade cellulose derivatives using agro residue as resource

 

OBJECTIVE OF THE PROJECT

 

To prepare food-grade Carboxymethyl Cellulose (CMC) and Microcrystalline Cellulose (MCC) from different agro residues  and to assess safety use as a functional food in Swiss albino mice.

 

PROGRESS ACHIEVED

Work on the preparation of food-grade carboxymethyl cellulose is going on.

PROJECT TITLE

Gene expression profiling of an economically important aquatic organism Tubifextubifex to assess its growth and response against different nutrients (A Special allocation project)

 

Objective of the project:

  • Monitoring growth and reproduction of Tubifex.
  • To analyze the different chemical parameters LCMS and Ion-trap Mass Spectrometry.
  • Understanding the molecular basis of growth by genes expression.

 

Progress of research works: Suitable Feed composition for growth and development of Tubificid worms has been developed using locally available raw materials.

 

PROJECT TITLE

Production of cellulase enzyme from microbial sources

 

 

 

OBJECTIVE OF THE PROJECT

 

Production and Isolation of Crude cellulase

 

PROGRESS ACHIEVED

Cellulase activity was assayed by a modification of Dintrosalicylic acid (DNS) method as described by Khan (1980) using carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) as substrate.

Title of the R & D project:

Preservation Technology and Fruit Bearing Behavior, Yield and Quality Characteristics of Different Mango Cultivars

 

Objective:

 

  • To enhance the regular fruit bearing of mango cultivars.
  • To enhance the early and also delaying maturity of mango cultivars.
  • To improve the yield and quality of different mango cultivars.
  • To reduce the post harvest losses of mango cultivars.

 

Process leased out:

  • Production of Low Caloric Mango Drink. Ref. MA Gofur, MZ Shafique, MOH Helali, M Ibrahim, MM Rahman and MA Hakim.

 

Title of the project:

Preservation Technology, Yield and Quality Characteristics of Different Jackfruit Cultivars grown at Rajshahi Region of Bangladesh

Objectives

  1. To enhance the yield of different jackfruit cultivars.
  2. To enhance the early and delaying maturity of jackfruit cultivars.
  3. To improve the quality of different jackfruit cultivars.
  4. To reduce the post harvest losses of jackfruit cultivars.

Rapid mass production of Strawberry plantlets through plant tissue culture and conventional method

OBJECTIVE

  • Improvement of the variety of strawberry through seasonal variation
  • Development of an in vitro plant regeneration protocol for the mass production of strawberries

Two scientific articles published.

PROJECT TITLE

Artificial seed production and in vitro conservation of indigenous potato cultivars of Bangladesh

OBJECTIVE OF THE PROJECT

  • Development of suitable protocol for encapsulation of somatic embryos, nodal segments and apical meristems for the production of artificial seed of potato.
  • Development of protocol for in vitro conservation of indigenous potato cultivars of Bangladesh.

 

PROGRESS ACHIEVED

One paper has been published in a reputed international journal. One process has been developed for the in vitro mass production of potato plantlets.
